Professor Lai Kow CHAN, Director of the Institute for Sustainable Development (ISD) of MUST

The Institute for Sustainable Development (ISD) of MUST aims at “objective, scientific and constructive research on Macao society”, and has carried out a series of research projects, executive education programs, lectures and forums since its establishment.

ISD has set up two independent centers to meet the research demand of Macao society, “Market Research Center” and “Contemporary Macao Study Center”. In “Market Research Center”, telephone interviewing and other sampling methods are adopted to collect objective and accurate data information for the researches. The center also offers social and marketing survey services to the public.

“Contemporary Macao Study Center” provides feasible policy recommendations for the “Micro-construction” of Macao through careful studies of specific economic policies, laws and regulations, which are necessarily to be adjusted to meet the development trend of Macao.

ISD has for many times released indexes and held academic activities which are closely related to Macao economy and society.

The indexes released include: “2008-2015 Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) of the Cross-Straits Four Regions”(co-released by Capital University of Economics and Business, China, Central University of Finance and Economics, China, Renmin University of China, City University of Hong Kong, Macau University of Science and Technology and Fu Jen Catholic University, Taiwan), “2008-2015 Consumer Confidence Index of Macao”, “2007-2015 Macao Consumer Satisfaction Index”, “2007-2015 Macao Employee Confidence and Satisfaction Index”, etc.
